Norovirus is a very contagious virus that is the most common cause of acute gastroenteritis. Symptoms include acute onset diarrhoea and vomiting. It is also called as “winter vomiting bug”
SYMPTOMS
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Stomach cramps
Low grade fever
Signs and symptoms usually begin 12 to 48 hours after exposure. The symptoms usually last 1 to 3 days. Young children, older people and people with other medical conditions- vomiting and diarrhoea can be severely dehydrating and require medical attention.
TRANSMISSION
From infected people to others
Eating contaminated food
Drinking contaminated water
PREVENTION
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water
Avoid contaminated food and water
Wash fruits and vegetables
Cook seafood thoroughly
Use caution while travelling
